Surgery Process

Steps of the Process

What Does the Process Look Like from Your Initial Appointment All the Way through Surgery?

First of all, our wonderful staff will guide you through each step of the process to help minimize your stress and anxiety. We know this is likely an overwhelming time in your life and we want to make this process as simple and easy as we can for you. Here’s what you can expect as a patient at CarePoint Neurosurgery and Spine.

Step 01

Initial new patient appointment with a PA or a Surgeon

All of our PAs are specialized in Neurosurgery (ranging anywhere from 1-10 years) and will be assisting in surgery with your surgeon.

Imaging

If you didn’t have any imaging done prior to your initial appointment, you will need to complete all imaging ordered by your provider after your first appointment and before your next appointment.

If you have not gotten your imaging completed, we will have to reschedule your appointment as our providers cannot make a sound treatment recommendation without seeing what exactly is going on in your body.

Surgery Recommendation

If surgery is recommended, you will then go through the surgery scheduling process with our surgery schedulers. This will include:

  • Our surgery scheduler will complete the prior authorization for you with your insurance. You will be updated during this process.
  • Our surgery scheduler will schedule the surgery at a time that works for you, your surgeon, and the facility. You will be updated during this process.
  • Prior to surgery, you will need to complete a Pre-Admission Test either at the facility in which you will have your surgery or with your PCP.

Note: If you are coming from out of state, our surgery scheduler will schedule this for you at a time when you are in town. You may need to plan to come into town a couple days prior to surgery to get this completed.

Post-operative Appointments

We will schedule post-operative appointments as recommended by your surgeon. Generally, the first appointment is 2-3 weeks after surgery.

Pre-surgery General FYI's

You will be given a surgery folder by one of our Medical Assistants in the office, or it will be mailed to you. It will have all the information you need about your surgery and how to plan for it.

Pain Medication will not be prescribed prior to surgery. We may prescribe pain medications for a maximum of 1-3 months after surgery, depending on your diagnosis. If long term pain management is required, you will be referred to a pain management physician or to your PCP.

Our office requires 72 business hours for any medication refill requests. It is your responsibility to notify the office in a timely manner when refills are necessary.

Your remaining deductible and any outstanding balance with our practice will be required to be paid prior to surgery.

If you choose to cancel your surgery, we ask that you courteously notify our office at least two weeks before the surgery date.
